I digress from fashion this week and talk about a cause that I hold deep in my heart, the environment. Tomorrow is April 22nd, Earth Day, which is celebrated around the world to promote support for environmental groups, community activism and education through a wide range of activities and events. Now, a little bit about this Love your Mother image. When I was in 6th grade we went on a class trip to some farm for 3 days to learn about the environment and farm life. Well, there was this guy (I think his name was Jessie) and he was wearing a t-shirt with Love your Mother image on it and I said “Wow, that is so nice that you love your mother so much you say it on your t-shirt”. After he stopped laughing, he told me to take another look and think about it. Ok, so I felt really stupid and then I took this picture of him wearing the shirt. I couldn’t believe I was able to find it after all these years!
We need to remember to keep the lovely Mother Earth in our thoughts everyday as we go through our busy lives, not just one day a year. There are lots of easy ways to be friendly to our environment: carry a reuseable water bottle, recycle, turn off the lights, use eco-friendly products, cloth napkins, reusable shopping bags, and the list goes on. Keep in mind that a plastic bottle can take 450 to 1000 years to decompose. Here are some items that we use in our house and no, my kitchen floor does not smell like a salad.
Not to digress from fashion completely, there are several fashion forward designers that are eco-friendly such as:Loomstate, Maiden Nation, Stella McCartney and Eileen Fisher to name a few. So give let’s keep America and the world beautiful for ourselves and our future generations. Happy Earth Day!
